Strike is the term used to describe how the foot hits the ground. Heel strike (also called rearfoot strike) refers to when the heel is the first part to hit the ground, followed by the rest of the foot. It is the most common strike pattern and is generally seen among long-distance athletes. Energy and weight are distributed evenly across the foot making heel striking easier to maintain for long periods of time.
